Our review
The Javelin is the most polished thermometer of the three, and the 1.4-inch display is a bigger deal than it sounds. Squinting at a small readout over a hot grill, in bright sun or fading light, is exactly when a large clear display earns its money — which is why this suits outdoor cooking particularly well.
Three-to-four second reads from its Japanese sensor are quick enough for any practical purpose, and integrated magnets keep it somewhere findable. The three-year limited warranty is the longest in this class and the clearest signal of how the company expects it to hold up.
The honest note is that a $13 competitor reads faster and is better sealed. This is splash-resistant rather than waterproof, so it can't go under the tap, and it's a premium price for a single-probe thermometer. The bright colour options are a matter of taste.

The best-built option and our pick for grilling, thanks to the large display and 3-year warranty. Pay the premium for build and support, not for speed.
