The E310 is Vitamix's entry point, and it's worth being clear about what the money buys, because it isn't smoothie quality on soft fruit — a $60 personal blender gets you a perfectly drinkable banana-and-berry smoothie. What you're paying for is range and lifespan.
Range means the variable 10-speed control and the 48-ounce container: you can take something from roughly chopped to completely smooth, blend enough for four people at once, and make hot soup directly in the jug rather than transferring from a pan. Fibrous kale and stems break down more completely here than in a personal blender, so if grittiness in green smoothies bothers you, this is the fix.
Lifespan is what the 5-year full warranty signals, and it's the most honest justification for the price. The costs are real: it's the loudest blender in this comparison, it needs dedicated counter space, and at around $350 it's four times the price of a capable personal blender.
